Music Theory

By Toledo Musician The Late Great Lucian Townes

You can put a song on it can wake your sleeping memory. A Bar room, concert, boat, sing-a-long, or bedroom. Some know all the words and others try to make you believe they know the words as they mumble through the chorus. The bridge brings the color of her eyes back into view and the horns take you back to your grandparents basement. You may love singing your heart out but I love listening and interpreting. So many hidden meanings, beautiful imagery, darkness dwellers, and tortured souls have partied, philosiphized, begged, and perished in the commune. But these souls have given birth to new interpretation of what they left behind. It has always been a constant evolution. Some try too hard but the greats seem as if it is effortless. Each ear is different but that is the most intriguing part. It has such mass appeal but is completely personal at the same time. It can ease you through your sorrow, bring back sorrow, set the mood, exercise your brain, and relax your bones. It is the middle child of the arts. Misunderstood, craving attention, lashing out, jealous, unpredictable, and loved. Could we exist if music was not around? That is a crazy question because it would never allow itself to be unfound.
