Why the Rockets are back.

Why the Rockets are back.

They want it. It’s as simple as that folks. The Toledo Rockets football team is sick and tired of feeding from the scraps of the MAC and want to step up to the big boys table. When someone takes something away from you that you took for granted for so long, it truly makes you appreciate what you had. And now the rockets have the hunger, they have the fight and they have the will to once again compete at the top of their conference.

The Rockets weren’t always this way however. For a long period of time they were fortunate enough to enjoy moderate success. Enough success to keep the team happy, keep the fans happy, and keep the media happy. Of course they would suffer tough losses and would in turn have to respond with a victory to keep their fans happy. But desperation was never a factor for those Rockets, they never had to fight for every yard and every win, and that was the problem in itself. The constant feeling of moderation and mediocrity, they may not have been eating gourmet meals but they were still filling up on Big Boy. Just as a dog gets used to the way a owner treats it, the Rockets became use to the level of success they were enjoying. They became comfortable with the way they were playing, with the way they were loosing, and the way in which things overall were going. And in a competitive world becoming comfortable is the single most dangerous thing that can happen to someone. Whether it be a single person, a team, or a large corporation if you become comfortable with the way your handling business and are no longer striving for further advancement you are going to become lackadaisical and others will take advantage of that. You loose your hunger you loose your fight you loose the very thing that took you to the top. And while your trying to take a bounced check of old success to the bank, others are cashing in on new ideas and your losses. Buying up your property (recruits, coach’s, trainers) and making themselves better with what you let fall to the wayside. Recycling what you threw away. Talk about going green.

Sometimes cracked foundations must be demolished before the full extent of the damage can be realized. The Rockets had their foundation demolished for twelve games last year. But this wasn’t just any demolition site, no this ground zero was scattered with banged up helmets, ripped jersey’s and torn shoulder pads, a battlefield of disappointment.

Construction has begun on the new foundation for the Rockets. It’s not something you can see the progress of physically but rather through the improvement and motivation of our young student athletes. They are laying down bricks like it’s the new Twitter. They’re hard at work, and not just when you can see them but in the class room, in the community and on the practice field. These Rockets are not happy with what they let get destroyed and are determined to build an impenetrable fortress that will serve as the hub for success of future Rockets to come. The 2009 Toledo Rockets football team is so hungry for success it’s disgusting. Seriously, I kept a bucket beside me as I wrote this article. The Rockets are in overdrive and Toledo needs to start paying attention before they become apart of the buffet.
