Senior Spotlight: Payton Schmitz

“The world may feel like it’s on fire right now, and everything’s changing, but trust your support systems.”

Payton Schmitz is one of your 2026 WXUT seniors. He is the Promotions Director of WXUT and host of Behind the Plate. He says that his time with WXUT was surreal, giving him a sense of purpose and community. From the MAC Football Kickoff in Detroit to the IBS Conference in New York City, Payton is forever grateful for the opportunities he was given.

“WXUT gave me a lot of great connections – friendships. I’m going to miss the University of Toledo.”

Payton is headed off to the Windy City, where he will be working for the Chicago White Sox Baseball Club as a Gameday Marketing Ambassador.

Payton would like to thank his family, Anthony Kruszka, Trip Floyd, the WXUT Promo Team, Jess Delaney, Tish Mays and everyone else who has helped and supported him along the way.
